COCKROACH PEST CONTROL - GOLD COAST
Cockroaches are not only disgusting to see when stumbling upon them at night, they are also known to carry and spread bacteria like streptococcus and staphylococcus, and contaminate food with salmonella. They can also cause various diseases, such as asthma and allergies, so no wonder why they’re considered pests once they cross the boundary of your home. They’re one of the most common pest problems Aussies are facing, but a very stubborn problem nonetheless.

Cockroaches are always in search of water so they will always be more prevalent in the kitchen, bathroom & laundry areas. Dishwashers that are not in use are a major attraction as there is a small lake of water formed in the filter on the bottom. Any water leaks or leaking pipes under the sink, as well as damp old cupboards will continue to attract them.
HOW TO GET RID OF COCKROACHES
COCKROACHES EXTERMINATION, HARDER THAN IT SEEMS
You’ve heard and read about this and taken all precautions, but you just ran across a couple of six-legged crawlers on the bathroom floor (which is probably why you landed on this page in the first place) and now you’re left a bit confused. Maybe you’re among those adventurous people who think cockroaches extermination is a piece of cake. If that’s the case, a word of warning: it’s far from pleasant.
HOW DO YOU KNOW YOU’RE FACING A COCKROACH INFESTATION?
The most evident signs are cockroach eggs and excrements (which resemble coarse black pepper). Look for them around cracks and crevices, near food sources and kitchen appliances, rubbish bins and generally any place that can provide a warm, dark place to hide.
Cockroaches are most active at night. Seeing them during the day can be a sign of overpopulation of the nest and you might already be in danger of facing a severe infestation.
WHAT TO EXPECT
When you decide to embark on a roach hunt, be prepared for the bad and the ugly: female cockroaches lay anywhere between 10 and 40 eggs and one single cockroach egg can hold as many as 40 nymphs (baby roaches) and the dark and humid spot where those lost fellas came from might be home to a few generations.
We’re not saying that cockroaches are indestructible, ‘cause we know they’re not, otherwise we’d be out of job. But it might be worth knowing that a cockroach can live around 12 months in normal conditions, up to a month without food and up to a week without its head. Hence our point that they’re a tricky bunch to get rid of.
WHAT COCKROACHES ARE IN YOUR HOUSE?
Out of thousands of species of cockroaches known, approximately 450 are found in Australia alone and reports show that the Australian warm, dry weather seems to draw them in the direction of our homes.
For effective cockroach pest control treatment, you’d need to know where about they are hiding and what types of cockroaches you have wandering in your home. Essentially, there would be two main types of cockroaches, the small ones (1.5 – 2.5 cm) and the larger ones (3.5 cm and more).
LARGE ROACHES – THE BIG BOYS
On a positive note, these large cockroaches typically live and breed outside the house, feeding on organic matter found in yards and gardens, but in case you spot them crawling on your kitchen walls, chances are they’re just in for a short trip for water due to extreme weather conditions (dry weather or heavy rain).
Normally they will be in and out quickly, so you shouldn’t lose sleep over these critters – though we totally understand if you do. If they find the right conditions inside your house, they will breed there, so beware of these big buggers. The most common species include the American roach, Australian roach, Oriental roaches and Shining brown roaches.
SMALL COCKROACHES – SMALL BUT MIGHTY
However, the ones you should be more concerned about are the smaller cockroaches. These little buggers prefer the cosy inside of your home rather than the dryness of your garden. You’ll find them hidden in cracks and crevices, usually warm and steamy places, so they are a known –and utterly despised- guest in restaurants and near food sources, such as ovens, dishwashers and rubbish bins.
If you suspect your home or business is being affected by a cockroach invasion, your safest bet is to just call the expert team at Best Pest straight away. The most common types of small cockroaches are the German cockroach and the Brown-banded cockroach.
HOW TO PREVENT COCKROACH INFESTATION
Cockroaches thrive in unhygienic environments and while a clean house does not necessarily mean a bug-free one, it definitely helps in the process. Here are a few tips to help you keep your house in a clean condition and pest-free:
Keep food off the floor and in sealed compartments
Keep the pantry organised and schedule regular cleaning sessions
Do not leave dirty dishes and leftovers in plain sight over night
Mop the floor during the day to have less damp areas at night
Kitchen appliances and utensils should be maintained grease-free
Keep rubbish bins sealed and the surrounding area clean
IS COCKROACH EXTERMINATION POSSIBLE AT HOME?
If you decide to take control of the situation and scare the cockroaches away, our recommendation is to stay away from the spray repellents and choose a gel one if you must. With a spray can, you have little control on the chemicals spread and they can easily contaminate pet food bowls, kitchen utensils and even food.
Generally, you need to be extremely careful when dealing with such chemicals especially if you have young children or pets around. You should be aware that cockroach eggs are naturally protected by many of these cockroach repellents, so even if you get rid of some of the live cockroaches, their eggs might still remain intact.
We said it before, cockroach extermination can be extremely tricky to handle and you should call a team of experts that have the knowledge and expertise to deal with it effectively.
HOW DO BEST PEST GET RID OF COCKROACHES
Cockroaches only need to feed once a month, so we place an alternative source of food for them in the form of a gel which is kind of like chocolate to them. They will groom each other passing on the product, taking it back to the rest of their family they will all be gone.
This gel stays on the door hinges and the pipes, back of the fridge where the condensation drain is and around the dishwasher. The gel is not noticeable and will continue to keep your house protected for up to a year.
